How do you create a class schedule in Course?

A class schedule in Course connects each class session to a day, time slot, teacher, and room. The room planner uses the institution's active schedule for its days and time labels. You can drag sessions into suitable cells on the planner.

An empty cell does not mean every session can be placed there. Course also checks room availability, teacher and student conflicts, class size, and closed time slots.

Build the schedule in order

  1. Check the institution's timetable.

Review the days the institution is open and its lesson times. The planner's time labels come from this timetable. The same slot number need not represent the same clock time at different institutions.

  2. Complete the class and session details.

Check the class roster and set the session's subject, teacher, day, and time slot. A class's primary room and the room assigned to a particular session are separate details.

  3. Place the session on the planner.

Drag a session from the shelf or another cell to the intended room and time. Read the placement indicators and warning text. If the target cell is occupied, Course evaluates whether the two sessions can swap places.

  4. Verify the saved schedule.

After saving, check the session's new cell, any sessions still on the shelf, and the conflict count. If you changed a student's class or a teacher, review the other affected lessons too.

What does Course check when you place a lesson?

Teacher and student conflicts are not limited to the institution currently shown on screen. The scheduling checks consider relevant placed sessions elsewhere in the same workspace.

What does Course check when you place a lesson?
CheckWhat it means
RoomAnother session already uses the same room on that day and time slot.
TeacherThe teacher has another placed session at that time in the workspace.
StudentAn active student in the class has a placed session in another class at that time.
CapacityA room with a positive capacity must have enough places for the class's active roster.
Closed time slotThe institution has blocked that day and time slot from use.

What do the shelf and warnings tell you?

A session without an assigned room stays on the shelf. It does not occupy a cell on the timetable, even if it has a day or slot recorded. Check the shelf before treating the class schedule as complete.

Course treats a room capacity of zero or less as an untracked limit. That display does not mean the physical room can hold an unlimited number of students; enter its real capacity if you need that check. Read subject and room-feature warnings as well, and distinguish warnings from conditions that block placement.

What does a conflict-free schedule not guarantee?

The current conflict checks match the day and timetable slot. They do not calculate whether the actual clock-time ranges at different institutions overlap or allow travel time between them. Compare the timetables of institutions that share a teacher separately.

The planner supports placement and shows warnings; it does not automatically optimize the entire week. Evaluate breaks between lessons, any teacher availability communicated outside Course, and practical room needs against the institution's real operating conditions.

Frequently asked questions

Does a lesson on the shelf occupy a timetable cell?

No. A session without a room is not placed and does not occupy a room cell.

Does a room with zero capacity become unusable?

No. In the current system, zero or negative capacity means the limit is not tracked. Enter a positive number to check the class size against the room's capacity.

Does Course account for travel time between institutions?

No. The current check compares days and timetable slots. Review travel time and actual clock-time ranges separately.
