How do you assess teacher lessons and availability in Course?

A Course teacher record holds a name, subjects, institution links, and an optional link to a user account. The Teachers list can be searched by teacher name, linked user's full name, subject, or institution name, and filtered by status or institution.

Being linked to an institution does not mean a teacher is available there every day. Assigned class sessions show the lessons on record. To assess availability, read the teacher record alongside the placed timetable and the institution's actual operating hours.

Review the teacher record and timetable

  1. Verify the teacher record.

In Teachers, check the person's name, subjects, and institution links. Before making separate records for the same person at different branches, review the institution links on the existing record.

  2. Check the account link.

When creating a teacher, you can create a new user account or link an existing user. When editing the record, check which account is linked. A teacher record and a sign-in account serve different purposes.

  3. Read assigned lessons.

Review teacher assignments in the timetable and the linked account's My Classes view. Check each placed session's institution, day, time, and room together.

  4. Assess practical availability.

Alongside conflict warnings, compare actual lesson times, the interval between consecutive lessons, and travel between branches with how your institution operates.

What does the teacher see in My Classes?

A linked teacher account sees its assigned class sessions in My Classes. Sessions placed in a room appear on the timetable; sessions without a room appear in a separate unscheduled list. Do not treat a shelved session's stored day and slot as a confirmed lesson time.

The time label on each timetable card comes from that session's institution schedule. If a teacher works at more than one institution, read the institution name and time together. The number of sessions helps you review recorded teaching assignments; it is not an automatic payroll or extra-hours calculation.

How does Course check teacher timetable conflicts?

When a session is placed, Course checks whether the same teacher has another placed lesson on the same day and slot. The check includes lessons at other institutions in the workspace. A shelved session without a room does not occupy a timetable cell.

The current check compares timetable days and slot numbers. Institutions may define different clock times for those slots, so compare actual start and end times as well. No conflict warning does not establish that travel time is sufficient or that the teacher has no commitments outside Course.

Consider subjects and attendance access separately

A teacher's listed subjects can be used to show a warning when assigning a lesson outside their subject area. Missing subject information can make that assessment incomplete. A correct subject record does not create a timetable by itself.

A linked teacher account can access attendance for its own assigned sessions. Broader attendance access depends on separate role permissions. To let a teacher handle their own lessons, verify the account link and session assignment rather than assuming they need management access to every institution.

Frequently asked questions

Does every teacher record need a sign-in account?

No. A teacher is a separate record. When creating one, you can create a new user account, link an existing user, or leave it without an account link.

Does a shelved lesson make the teacher's slot busy?

No. In the placement conflict check, a session without a room is not counted as a placed timetable slot.

Does the lesson count calculate pay automatically?

No. The view shows assigned class sessions; it does not establish payroll or extra teaching pay.
